Prop Hunt is a gamemode created for Garry's Mod as part of a competition in winter 2009/10, which has since been adopted as a Team Fortress 2 gamemode of the same name. There are two teams: The Props and the Hunters. Props' goal is to hide or evade death for the entire round. Hunters' goal is to kill all of the props to win.

Props

The Props have to hide from the hunters during the allotted time by taking the appearance of any props scattered on the map.

When not disguised, the Props have the default appearance of Isaac Kleiner (from Half Life 2), taking the reference position ( bolt upright with arms aside ) without any animation. The Prop cannot take back this appearance once disguised.

To take the appearance of a prop, the player have to aim the desired object, then press " E ", creating a "copy" of the object as a disguise. Contrary to what the player seems to see, the original orientation of the prop cannot be changed, to avoid map exploits by playing with the orientation of is prop.

A Prop is differentiated from real object by :

  • When aimed, the name and the health of Prop appears in red.
  • A Prop cannot be taken or pushed.
  • A prop will emit blood when dammaged.
  • When hitted, the Hunter will not take dammage. ( He is technically not supposed to reveal the appearance and the location of the Prop. )

The Prop's quantity of HP will depend of the size of the taken item, going from 1 to 200.

Hunters

The hunters have the default skin of a Combine Officer (from Half Life 2). They are blinded and cannot move during the first 30 or 35 seconds of the game to allow props to hide. Each hunter has a crowbar, shotgun, SMG and 1 SMG grenade (Alt fire of the SMG). The weapons are used to kill the props, but when shooting or hitting a real object, hunters take damage (the number of life points you lose 5 heath when shooting or hitting real props). Hunters have 100 life points at the start of the game.

Spectator

The Spectator is the form taken when waiting for next round or can be selected in the team selection menu. the Spectator can fly around the map and switch to other player's view. He is not supposed to reveal the Prop's locations or their appearance.
