JBMod is the predecessor of Garry's Mod. Created by HL2world forums user JB55 (JackBox55) on December 1st 2004. JBMod is well known for being the first ever Half-Life 2/Source Engine modification.

Garry Newman originally made Garry's Mod out of pure frustration for the incompetence of JB55, with the latter barely releasing updates for it.

About JBMod[]

JBMod was originally made to bring back the originally cut Physgun from Half-Life 2, which uses the supercharged Gravity Gun model instead of the original Physgun model as seen here. It allows you to make awesome contraptions, manipulate physics and put Half-Life 2 characters in sexual positions. The developers made a series of satirical history videos regarding JBMod, claiming that the mod works with every Source engine-based game made by Valve, cures breast cancer, and that would be on PSN, which are all obvious satire. In 2011 JBMod announced the version 3.0, but, due to complications with Steam Greenlight and its moderators banning it due to one of its marketing strategies being "putting Half-Life ragdolls in sexual positions," it was never released. As stated in a 2012 video made by the JBMod team's YouTube channel, even though the "banning it for sexual content" was never stated, despite Steam being known for having a dump of Hentai games.

Post-GMod[]

After Garry Newman made GMod and it being undoubtedly better than JBMod, and also it getting super famous, they initially dissed Garry Newman as a joke and essentially made the first ever Chad vs Virgin meme.

Steam[]

On October 9, 2022, JBMod was announced to Steam. It was released on October 22, as a free mod for Half-Life 2.

JBMod is currently based on Source SDK Base 2013, same as Garry's Mod 13.
